What is JoeHero? The world's first do-it-yourself heroing community and inspirational challenge.  How Does It Work?

FAQ

  1. General

    1. What is Heroing?

/he' ro ing/: Taking action to do good and inspire others.

Lots of people do good things, like donate money or clothing, spread kindness through good deeds, or volunteer for local charities or causes... but Heroing takes it one step further, by sharing those experiences in stories, photos and videos to inspire others to take action as well.

Heroing isn't hard. The act itself can be as simple as saying hello to a stranger, buying someone a meal or helping out in the community... But the real impact comes from capturing and sharing that experience to inspire others to take action... If spread far enough, one exceptional act of Heroing can have the same impact as thousands of volunteer hours or millions of dollars in donations.

    2. What is JoeHero?

JoeHero is the first website established specifically to promote Heroing, by offering both a community for Heroes and a showcase for Missions. With this website, you can find Heroing challenges, communicate with and support other Heroes, share your own Missions, launch Heroing Movements, and keep a complete record of your Heroing activities, making new friends, having fun and inspiring others along the way!

    3. Why should I Go Heroing?

Maybe because you're passionate about making an impact. Or, because you want to be seen as more than just your job. Or, because you've got a great idea for making the world better. Or, because you want to be a Hero to someone you care about. Or, because you stand for something and you want people to remember you for it. Or, just because you're ready to stop complaining, step up and do something amazing that changes the world.

    4. How does JoeHero work?

Glad you asked. Heroes Start Missions that do good by helping people, groups or causes directly. The more direct, the better. After starting a Mission, Heroes can invite friends to help, and post descriptions, pictures and videos as they work towards their goal. Heroes and their Sidekicks accumulate Followers who like and support what they do, but also receive awards for their achievements, and spread their ideas through other Heroes who help turn their Missions into Movements.

    5. What kind of Mission should I go on?

A JoeHero Mission can be anything that makes the world a better place, from a random act of kindness, like buying a stranger a meal, to organizing a massive undertaking, like building a new community park. No matter which one you choose, the important part is that you take action now, have fun, and make a difference!

    6. How do the Challenges Work?

We have a number of great user-submitted Mission Challenges that you can try. You can see all the Challenges on the Mission Challenges page.

    7. How do Awards work?

  1. Other Stuff

    1. How do I raise money for charity?

You don't. Take action and help someone directly instead. Or, plan an event and capture an experience, like a day of volunteering, that inspires others to help the charity too. You wouldn't watch a movie where the Hero asks for donations for 108 minutes instead of saving the world... Make your Mission something amazing and inspirational to others instead...

    2. What does "Beta" mean?

It means we're new, and not everything on the site might work 100% correctly. But it's also a great opportunity for you to be a founding member of JoeHero, and help give feedback, suggest features and build our community of Heroes! Also, it means we don't yet have thousands of people doing our Sponsored Challenges, so right now it's really easy to put your Missions on top!

    3. Who's behind JoeHero?

Nobody special. Just a guy named Scott and some of his friends. If you want, you can ask Scott some questions at the Community or on Twitter.

    4. Who supports JoeHero?

Private individuals and organizations who want to make the world a better place, along with Sponsors who support our Heroes with Mission Challenges. If you know someone who might want to sponsor JoeHero, let us know.

    5. Why are you doing this?

In short... because we want to be Heroes too.
